The R Word is Being Mentioned to Me More These Days He Said

It is a word I’d rather
not hear
and, in some ways,
I really don’t fear.
I have studied and worked
my way to the top,
therefore I find it
difficult to consider or stop.
I enjoy each day and the
people I know,
why should I stop when I
still hear “Go”?
The R word seems good to
those who don’t think,
how important a good job
is
that just does not stink.
As long as I can move and
think like a pro,
I’m not leaving,
even though some say, “Go”.
No, the infamous “R”
word
is somewhat absurd,
I could make believe it is
simply not heard.
No, I can’t do that,
they'll think I don't hear,
then they'll wonder
and possibly fear.
A doctor who heartbeats
can’t truly detect,
may cause some of his
patients to soon defect.
I know what I’ll do,
I’ll
tell them like this,
the R word right now
I must truly dismiss.
Yes, if they ask,
push or inquire,
“Have you thought about
when and where you’ll retire?”
I’ll simply reply
and not even sigh,
"As long as my mind and body
are good,
I'm right here at work in this
neighborhood."
