Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel - Song Lyrics with Simple Analyses and Insights

The lyrics of the "Bridge Over Troubled Water" are clear and straightforward and probably require little analysis or insight, but for the sake of giving a little perspective and a view from a slightly different angle see the unrhymed, contrasting prose paraphrasing to the right of the actual lyrics. Anyone can substitute some of their personal views that make this song that much more meaningful for you.

Song Lyrics                                                                 Simple Analyses and Insights

When you're weary, feeling small,                            When you are tired, seen unimportant
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all.      When crying, I’m here to comfort you
I'm on your side. When times get rough                   When all is bad and you are deserted
And friends just can’t be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water                              I’ll carry you over the bad times & places
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

When you're down and out,                                      When you are broken, penniless
When you're on the street,                                       Like a hobo or wanderer
When evening falls so hard                                      and darkness comes heavy upon you
I will comfort you.                                                    I am there.
I’ll take your part.                                                      I am sharing your pain.
When darkness comes                                              When those heavy, sad times come
And pains is all around,                                             And you ache all over
Like a bridge over troubled water                            I’ll carry you over the bad times & places
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.

Sail on silver girl,                                                    Let the wind carry you as though on an ocean
Sail on by.                                                                Yes, sail and be carried forward
Your time has come to shine.                                This is your bright time for hope to blossom
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.                                                See those bright hopes burst and bloom
O, If you need a friend                                           Yes, when you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind.                                         I am right here, nearby, to back you up.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.                                             I’ll carry your thoughts to comfort and peace.
Like a bridge over troubled water                         I’ll carry your thoughts to comfort and peace
I will ease your mind.
